With emphasis on writing, reading comprehension and mathematics in preparation for college, The Mountain Center curriculum is the same as the traditional curriculum offered at The Storm King School with one difference: Mountain Center students take their core courses at the Center while participating in other classes, activities and athletics with the rest of the SKS student body. The school-within-a-school inclusive model eliminates academic and social issues associated with placement in "special education" classrooms.
The Mountain Center's small teacher-to-student ratio (1:5) and differentiated instruction jumpstart improvement in academic confidence and performance. Individualized attention, combined with flexible teaching methodologies, enable our students to accomplish more than they ever thought possible. Mountain Center students learn life-long strategies that empower them now and in the future.
The holistic approach to students' needs makes us unique. The Mountain Center at The Storm King School is a place where individuality is celebrated and success is made possible. Please note: to qualify for The Mountain Center, students must have an educational/psychological evaluation, including a WISC, a WAIS or similar instrument that includes findings and recommendations, and/or an Individualized Educational Program (I.E.P.) from their home school district or a private school equivalent.
