At The Storm King School we strive to match students with opportunities to unlock their potential. We believe that there are many different ways a person learns and feel that we have the ability to discover them, using different techniques and programs to ensure a successful prep-school experience. The small classes, supportive, safe, and culturally diverse environment, and above all, our hallmark, the individual attention we provide allow students to build academic excellence, confidence and character, and to prepare optimistically and wisely for their college years.
We pay close attention to a student's attitude and promise. A student's willingness to participate fully in school activities and to be supportive of The Storm King School standards, as well as his or her past academic record, help determine an admissions decision. Who you are and what you want to be are as important to us as what you have done in the past. Above all we want Storm King to be the right fit for a student.
Our Middle School, which opened in September 2004, is a self-contained, experiential based 8th Grade program of no more than 15 students per grade level. The curriculum is compatible with the New York State Regents curriculum so that parents who want their students to attend our School, for small classroom numbers and fine teaching, can do so with the confidence that a student could return to the public school system in high school. Offerings in the arts, a physical education program and, in the afternoon, sports and clubs are available as well. Call our Admissions Office for more information and to set up a visit.
Our Mountain Center Program is accepts a limited amount of students with learning disabilities or difficulties who have college potential. Students in the Mountain Center take their core courses; English, math, science and history in a class with a 5:1 student/teacher ratio with special education certified teachers well versed in teaching towards many different learning styles. In all other classes, activities, athletics and campus life the Mountain Center students are integrated with the rest of the students, thus eliminating any stigma.
Our Performing and Visual Arts Program is designed for students to learn the basics and advanced skills in the areas of their passion. If the student plans to go on and study their passion at the university level, individual attention is given towards helping them develop their portfolio for application to specific programs or specialized colleges.
