The renowned Arts program at The Storm King School boasts an accomplished faculty, state-of-the-art technology, and a variety of exciting courses to inspire interest and stimulate creativity. From stagecraft to music production, graphic arts to modern dance, with everything from choral singing to playwriting in between, we offer dynamic instruction in theater arts, visual arts, music arts and music technology.

Because we believe students learn by doing, every SKS student is exposed to the arts, whether singing in a choral ensemble, picking up an instrument for the first time, or running a spotlight during a community production of Hello Dolly. Frequent school-wide performances and exhibitions ensure that everyone gets a chance to share their accomplishments and to admire the achievements of their classmates.

We want our arts students to learn their craft, yes—but we want all our SKS students to be able to appreciate and value the arts. Since we emphasize effort and individualized, differentiated instruction, our students learn more than the basics of the Arts—they gain in confidence and self-esteem that affects all other areas of study. Some SKS students develop a thirst for the artistic subject matter and immerse themselves in artistic study, while accomplished students who enter our program nurture their talents and master new skills.

SKS students who are serious about their craft have gone on to schools like Pratt Institute, The School of Visual Arts, Boston University, Berklee School of Music, The Fashion Institute of Technology, California School of Fine Arts, and the University of Michigan, among others.

The talented and distinguished faculty members that bring our Arts program to life are dedicated to inspiring our students every day.  Please visit our faculty and staff directory to read their faculty bios, and to learn more about their career highlights and impressive credentials.  You'll see why the SKS Arts program is so renowned!

M.A.D. About the Arts Scholarship Competition

Each year The Storm King School hosts the M.A.D. (Music, Art, Drama) About the Arts Scholarship Competition. The M.A.D. competition is open to any new student entering grades 8 – 12. The winners receive scholarship awards to be applied to the following year’s tuition.

SKS is committed to growing the Arts program, and the M.A.D. Competition allows us to attract talented students who have a sincere interest in the arts and a desire to further their study at our school. Potential students have the opportunity to learn about our program, view our beautiful campus and experience our warm community "on the mountain." For more information, please contact Director of Admissions Joanna Evans at (800) 225-9144 or jevans@sks.org.
