SKS Theatre Arts students benefit from hands-on experience in every aspect of our busy schedule of productions. Students operate the lighting and sound consoles. They assist in the construction of beautiful Broadway-style sets. They help design costumes and apply makeup. They learn the process of directing, stage-managing and acting. And they collaborate on musical accompaniment, alongside our accomplished faculty and talented parents.

The Canterbury Theatre Ensemble, a community group sponsored by SKS, expands our performing arts resources and opportunities. The Canterbury Theatre Ensemble counts among its members recognized theatre professionals and enthusiasts who provide logistical support as well as regular audiences in front of which our young actors gain valuable performance experience.

The SKS Theatre Arts Program puts on two productions, supplemented with two community theatre productions, for a total of two plays and two musicals per school year.  Our productions are held in The Walter Reade, Jr. Theatre, a well-appointed professional performance space. The theatre’s intimate design brings actors and audiences together for exciting and creative theatrical productions.

Experience in Theatre Arts increases our students' capability for self-expression and deepens their capacity for self-discovery. It is a fun and rewarding activity that, like sports, shows our students how much they can accomplish by working together as a team.
