Storm King’s science classes and crew team boarded the Hudson River Clearwater Sloop on May 10th and headed out for a day of boating, fishing, and science-based environmental investigation. Folk singer legend and environmental activist Pete Seeger built Clearwater in 1966 in an effort to save the Hudson River from increasingly degrading pollution. READ MORE

Congratulations to Storm King’s young poets, Kyle M. ’14 and Polina G. ’13, who recently won the Cornwall Public Library’s annual Timothy Mumford Memorial Poetry Competition. Kyle won Best Poem for the 15 and 16-year-old age group, and Polina won Best Poem for the 17 and 18-year-old age group as well as Best Poem Overall. A panel of independent judges rated poetry submissions in five categories. READ MORE

The Storm King School's annual International Fair took place on Wednesday, May 2nd. Students in Ms. Anna Stein-Obreros' Spanish classes, Ms. Kristen Casey and Stephanie Frank's ESL classes, Ms. Katja Jylkka and Ms. Ping Moroney's Chinese classes, and Ms. Felicia Gell's American Sign Language classes chose a country, their country of origin for many, and prepared colorful poster boards, signature dishes, crafts, music, and more. Students and faculty embraced Spirit Week with great
pride. April 23-27 was packed with spring-time activities, including the Senior
Slumber Retreat at the lodge in Black Rock Forest, a morning of Earth Day
campus beautification projects, a National Honor Society induction ceremony and
formal dinner, an Art Show in the Dining Room, athletic games, and to top it

induction ceremony on Thursday, April 26th. Criteria for membership include
scholarship, service, leadership, and character. All members must maintain a
3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) and contribute positively to the school and the
community through volunteer work, leadership opportunities, and a good

Students marked Earth Day with campus beautification projects on Wednesday, April 25th. In groups, they raked, weeded, and mulched flower beds, planted flowers, built new wood-framed plant beds for the vegetable garden, lined the main athletic field, painted a mural, built a fire pit, and cleared brush to make way for a campsite to be used by the Outdoor Adventure Program.
