Mountain Day 2010

Wednesday, September 29th marked The Storm King School’s annual Mountain Day event. Students and faculty participated in the long-standing tradition, started by former Head of School Anson Barker in 1932. This year, however, was a bit different than in years past. Instead of hiking the trails of Black Rock Forest, students and faculty hiked to the summit of Spy Rock. And, to make things even more interesting, Teacher Kevin Wilkins divided the hikers into groups and challenged them to a race. First prize: a dress-down day! READ MORE

Students Meet World-Renowned Musicians

Periodically throughout the year, students have the unique opportunity to meet world-renowned musicians and attend private performances through The Storm King School’s Performing Arts Program. Thursday, September 23rd was one of these occasions. Vocal Teacher Jim Rensink, an accomplished musician himself whose performing career has taken him all over the world and to venues such as Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall, arranged two special events for the students on that day. Students Celebrate the Moon Festival

The Storm King School celebrated the Moon Festival the evening of Wednesday, September 2010. Cloudy skies prevented the full moon from making an appearance, but that didn’t dampen the spirits of our Chinese and Korean populations, who were excited to share their traditions with their classmates. The Storm King School Observes September 11th Anniversary

The Storm King School honored the ninth anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks with a service beside the flag pole overlooking the picturesque Hudson River. Mountain Center Teacher and Assistant Athletic Director Joseph Graziosi, along with Dean of Students and Athletic Director Alan Lewis, organized the day’s events, which also included a soccer tournament and cross-country invitational: the official kick-off of the fall sports season. Students Participate in Team-Building Weekend

Students enjoyed a fun-filled weekend to round out their first week of the new school year. Dean of Students Alan Lewis divided the students into two groups and organized all-day excursions to Alley Pond Park in Queens, NY and Ramapo Park in Rhinebeck, NY. READ MORE
