Dress Code:

Order Form

The goal of the school community in establishing a dress code is to enhance the lifestyle of all members by developing shared values for dress and deportment.  The dress code is in effect for all students throughout the academic day (7 AM – 3 PM).  Students departing and returning to campus (i.e. appointments, field trips) are required to depart and return in dress code.  The dress code is as follows:

TOPS

Students must wear a solid-colored, navy or white, collared shirt (polo or oxford) with the school crest embroidered on the left side over the heart.  Tops must be tucked in or tapered to a reasonable length.  The Storm King School contracts with a local company (BBE Designs, Cornwall, NY) to provide us with a school approved line of attractive and affordable tops.  Students may also choose to have their own shirts embroidered through this company, as long as they follow the strict guidelines.

Midriffs and/or bellybuttons must not be exposed.  Additionally, T-shirts may be worn underneath an SKS top, but must not be visible below and SKS shirt waist or sleeve cut.

BOTTOMS

Students must wear solid-colored pants, shorts, or skirts, which must be khaki or tan in color. All bottoms must fit properly, be clean and neat, and worn at the waist.  Shorts may only be worn between the opening of school and parents weekend, and then not again until after the April recess.  Shorts and skirts must also be cut to fall no more than two inches above the knee.  Stockings may be worn with a skirt, but must be nude or navy in color.  Capri pants may also be worn.

Denim of any color, stretch pants/leggings, cargo pants or shorts, or wind pants/athletic clothing may not be worn during the academic day.  Pants must also not be worn to expose the midriff or bellybutton.  Improperly fitting pants that make underwear visible are also prohibited.

SWEATERS/SWEATSHIRTS

Only solid, navy-colored sweaters may be worn during the academic day.  All styles of sweaters are permissible, but they must be navy.  Sweaters do not have to be embroidered with the Storm King Crest, but they must be neat and they must fit properly.

Only Storm King School sweatshirts are permitted during the academic day.  Sweatshirts must be gray or navy in color, and must bear the Storm King School name or crest.  Athletic sweatshirts purchased by teams are permissible during the academic day.  Sweatshirts may be hoodless, zippered, or hooded.  Hoods, however, must be left off the head during the academic day.

All sweaters and sweatshirts must be worn over SKS dress-code tops.

FORMAL DINNERS/SPECIAL EVENTS

Male students are required to wear a dinner jacket or a blazer, a dress shirt, a tie, and dress pants.  Female students may wear a blazer, and they must wear a dress or dress skirt/pants and top.  No spaghetti straps or strapless tops or dresses may be worn.  Dress shoes only (no sneakers, boots, or sandals) must be worn by both males and females.

SHOES

Shoes must be clean, and in good condition with no holes.  No shower shoes/beach shoes (thongs or flip-flops) may be worn during the academic day.

HATS

No hats are allowed in the any of the academic buildings, which include the Art Center, Library, Mountain Center, and Dining Hall – at any time of the day.  No other head covering, including bandannas, head bands, do-rags, and baseball caps, are permitted in the buildings outlined above.

THE FOLLOWING ITEMS ARE NOT PERMITTED AT ANY TIME, INCLUDING EVENINGS AND WEEKENDS:
